Unique Filtration System

Advanced 4-Stage Progressive Filtration

Aqua2use uses a state-of-the-art, 4-stage filtration system that removes lint, fibers, soap residues, and fine particles — producing clean, garden-ready water for subsurface irrigation. By filtering out debris that would otherwise clog emitters or reduce soil infiltration, the system protects both your irrigation network and the long-term health of your soil. The result is reliable greywater reuse that keeps your garden thriving and your maintenance low.

How It Works

Each Aqua2use unit uses cross-flow depth filtration, where water passes through layered 3-dimensional Matala® filter media. This design traps a high volume of impurities without clogging, maintaining consistent flow through a multichamber plug-flow system. If one filter layer becomes saturated, the next automatically takes over, ensuring uninterrupted performance and exceptional solids removal — up to 75% in pump units and 90% in gravity-fed systems.

Working Principle

The unique random fiber structure inside each filter promotes gentle microturbulence and true 3D water movement, increasing contact time and improving filtration efficiency. The open interstitial spaces also encourage the growth of a natural biofilm layer — a self-sustaining, living filter that continually breaks down organic material and refines water quality. Over time, this biological action further stabilizes output and enhances system performance, making Aqua2use far more effective than traditional mechanical screens or mesh filters.

Greywater Filtration Process

Step 1 — When the Aqua2use GWDD valve is open, greywater flows directly to the main sewer line.

Step 2 — When the valve is closed, greywater is channeled into the system's diversion chamber.

Step 3 — Greywater begins the journey through the 4-stage progressive filtration system:

  • Stage 1 – Black Layer — Coarse, low-density layer that captures hair, lint, and larger solids. Its rigid, open structure allows heavy debris to settle, preventing clogging in deeper layers.
  • Stage 2 – Green Layer — Medium-density layer that traps smaller fibers and soap residues. It balances flow and filtration, initiating biological activity within the media.
  • Stage 3 – Blue Layer — Fine-density layer that removes suspended solids, grease, and detergent residues. Its denser matrix increases contact time, reducing turbidity and polishing flow.
  • Stage 4 – Gray Layer — Extra-fine, biofilm-rich layer with maximum surface area. This final stage biologically stabilizes the water, producing clean, garden-ready greywater.

Step 4 — The filtered greywater is then pumped to your irrigation system.

A Pump Designed for Greywater

1. Instead of a single on/off float, the system uses two sealed magnetic micro-floats that send precise signals to the controller as the water level changes. This design allows the tank’s full capacity to be used and provides a strong, continuous discharge that fully pressurizes drip laterals to their ends. It also minimizes short cycling, protects the pump, and ensures the filter media remains evenly wetted by incoming greywater.

2. The Electronic Pump Controller (EPC) monitors the float signals and can periodically override them to activate the pump, ensuring the tank never retains stagnant residual water. This prevents buildup, keeps the system clean, and maintains healthy flow through the filters.

3. The Aqua2use does not rely on any external timers or manual cycles. Unlike other systems that depend on preset intervals, it automatically operates based on actual water levels — turning on when the tank is full and off when it’s empty.

IMPORTANT: The Aqua2use control system is electronic and must be connected to a dedicated, surge-protected outlet. Improper power connection may damage the EPC and void the warranty.

Tiny house living for 7 years, work great!

While planning the design of our tiny house, I explored various grey water filtering systems. This particular design seamlessly integrated into our wastewater management plan. The county reviewed our water discharge and had no inquiries. We are extremely satisfied with the system and would strongly recommend it.

Working great after 3 years

We live in the desert, and water is scarce. When we built our house, we put in two sewer lines - one for black water into the septic, and one for gray water (showers, bathroom sink, laundry) into the garden. We were concerned about surface smell and deposits, so we buried our irrigation lines and the emitters are each in their own PVC pipe filled with gravel, about 12" below the surface. It's been great to have all this additional water available for the garden.

GWDD System 5 years STILL working perfectly!

Received a GWDD pump unit in 2020 and has been performing top notch ever since. Original filters are holding up with regular cleanings monthly. I have it set up to either pump out into a natural swale or into a reed bed greywater filtration system that irrigates a garden most months. The pump performance is perfect to get up about 8 feet head over 75 feet distance. A check valve is needed to prevent the pipe volume from backflowing and refilling the tank. Reed bed has 3 legs of 30” length of PVC (1 1/2”) with about 25 half inch outlet holes per leg. Works great! Waterwise has amazing customer service and product is well worth the investment and (as proven) holds up long term with regular maintenance to clean the filters. Again, top notch!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Aqua2use GWDD?

The Aqua2use GWDD is the most advanced Grey Water Diversion Device available. It is designed to help you reuse your waste water from your laundry, bath, and shower.

How does it work?

It simply diverts grey water from your waste pipe and then filters the water as it passes through the Matala Patented 3-Dimensional Progressive Filter mats.
Then the pumps get activated and diverts the water into your irrigation system.
This all happens automatically.

What can I connect my unit to?

The Aqua2use® GWDD is designed to connect to the discharge pipe from the laundry, shower, and bath.

Why can’t I connect my sink in the kitchen?

It is not advisable to try to reuse sink water. This water may contain many nutrients, food particles, oil and harsh detergents all are not suitable for reuse. Sink water is considered to be Black Water and should go to waste.

Why is the Aqua2use GWDD different than other greywater systems?

The Aqua2use® GWDD is designed to be the most efficient and advanced Grey Water Diversion Device available on the market. It is solely aimed at the professional licensed installer, to make it easy and simple to disperse the wastewater through a subsurface drip system. This is so we can make full use of the wastewater from the shower, laundry, and bath.
The concept was to build a compact economical unit that met the full requirements of State and Government water authorities.

  1.  Thanks to the Matala depth filtration, the unit is extremely efficient in progressive filtration and it can hold 10kg of solids without clogging the filter. (less frequent clean.)
  2. And secondly by filtering the wastewater to make it suitable for drip irrigation application.
  3. There are no external timers in the Aqua2use® GWDD. Other units have to rely on external timers to make sure any residual is pumped out within 24 hours. The Aqua2use® GWDD has a timer function integrated into the electronic pump control.
  4. Designed to have the lowest residual water level possible.

What is the guarantee?

All parts and the pump are covered by a 12-month replacement warranty.

How often do I have to clean or replace the filters?

Testing in the field has shown that up to 15,850 gallons can pass through the unit before they need cleaning. Recommended cleaning cycle depending on how many people are using the system is every 4-6 months. Dispose of waste thoughtfully and wear protective gloves when cleaning.

We recommend replacing the filters every 3 years.

Can I store the greywater after it has been filtered?

It is not advisable to store grey water from any Grey Water Diversion device for more than 24 hours.

How big is the tank in the Aqua2use GWDD?

The total capacity of the tank is 21 gallons.

Can the unit overflow?

The unit has an inbuilt overflow so if you accidentally leave the power switched off to your unit it will simply send the water to waste. This is a requirement of all water authorities.
