The Aqua2use GWDD: Built for Tucson's Rebate Program

A permanent, code-compliant greywater diversion system with advanced 4-stage filtration — designed for long-term residential use and aligned with Tucson Water rebate requirements.

  • Reuse up to 40,000 gallons of greywater annually
  • 4-stage progressive filtration removes lint and debris
  • Captures water from laundry, showers, and bathroom sinks
  • Can pay for itself in as little as 24 months with rebates

Follow Each Step in Order to Maximize Your Rebate

Tucson Water reimburses 50% of qualifying costs, up to $1,000. Completing these steps in sequence is the fastest path to full reimbursement.

1

Attend Tucson Water's Required Workshop (Free)

Tucson Water requires completion of an approved greywater workshop before installation. The class covers Arizona greywater rules, system types, and what qualifies as a permanent installation.

The Watershed Management Group offers both online and in-person classes that satisfy this requirement. The next virtual session is Tuesday, March 10, 2026 from 5:00–7:00 PM.

Important: This must be completed before you install. Skipping this step disqualifies your rebate application entirely.

2

Choose a Permanent, Code-Compliant System

The rebate applies to permanent greywater irrigation systems only. Temporary hoses or quick laundry-to-landscape setups do not qualify.

Your system must move greywater from your house to your yard correctly using approved methods and be designed for long-term residential use.

The Aqua2use GWDD is a documented, permanent greywater system aligned with Tucson's rebate requirements. Its 4-stage progressive filtration produces clean greywater ideal for subsurface drip irrigation — starting at just $625.

Install Correctly — DIY or Licensed Installer

Homeowners may install systems themselves or hire a licensed professional. Many homeowners choose a licensed installer to reduce compliance risk and ensure everything qualifies properly.

Key installation requirements:

  • A permit is not required to tap into a pre-existing gravity stub-out from the washing machine
  • A permit is required to modify drainage plumbing and piping from any fixture
  • If a pump is used, a Reduced Pressure Assembly (RPA) must be installed for backflow prevention
Permit check: Contact Tucson Planning & Development Services at 520-791-5550 to confirm whether your project needs a building permit.

Document Everything

Incomplete paperwork is the most common reason rebates are delayed. Keep complete records from the start:

  • Itemized receipts or invoices from licensed businesses/contractors showing materials, labor, and sales tax
  • Project plan — your layout and system design
  • W-9 form — required for rebates paid by check from the City of Tucson
  • Permit documentation — if applicable to your installation
Tip: Keep a dedicated folder from day one. Photograph everything during installation. Receipts must show itemized work and/or materials with applicable sales tax and total.
5

Submit Your Application & Get Reimbursed

Tucson Water reimburses 50% of qualifying costs, up to $1,000 maximum per household. The rebate covers both materials and installation costs (not including taxes).

Eligible costs include pipe, tanks, pumps, fittings, valves, filters, irrigation system parts, installation costs, delivery charges, and up to $200 for design. The application must be submitted within 1 year of purchase.

Processing time: Allow 6–8 weeks for your completed application to be processed and a rebate check issued. Per IRS requirements, rebates of $600 or more will generate a 1099-MISC.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much will I actually get back? +
Tucson Water reimburses 50% of qualifying costs, up to a maximum of $1,000 per household. Qualifying costs include the system, installation labor, piping, fittings, filters, irrigation parts, delivery charges, and up to $200 for design. Sales tax and non-permanent items are excluded.
Can I install the system myself? +
Yes. Homeowners can install greywater systems themselves. However, if you're modifying drainage plumbing or piping from any fixture, a building permit is required. Many homeowners choose a licensed installer to ensure compliance and complete documentation for the rebate application.
Do I need a permit? +
It depends on your setup. No permit is needed to tap into a pre-existing gravity stub-out from the washing machine. A permit is required if you modify drainage plumbing or piping from any fixture. Contact Tucson Planning & Development Services at 520-791-5550 to confirm your project's requirements.
What is the backflow prevention requirement? +
If a pump is used to distribute the greywater, a Reduced Pressure Assembly (RPA) must be installed on the service connection to protect the potable water system. This is required by federal and state law. The RPA cost is not covered by the rebate. Contact the Backflow Prevention and Reclaimed Water Section at 520-791-2650 for more information.
How long does the rebate process take? +
Allow 6–8 weeks after submitting your completed application to receive your rebate check. The most common cause of delays is incomplete documentation, so make sure all receipts, your project plan, W-9, and any permit documents are included with your submission.
Is the workshop really required? +
Yes — Tucson Water requires attendance at a free, two-hour residential greywater workshop before installation. This is a non-negotiable qualification step. The Watershed Management Group runs both online and in-person sessions that satisfy this requirement.
